Ok, so the first night (Wednesday the 7th) we did NOT go out and hear any jazz music at “Bar Africa.” We were going to go, but we were afraid that once we traveled there by taxi and got all settled in for a night of fun our jet-lag would kick in and we’d have to go though the trouble of getting ourselves back home (through “the language barrier“). So we stayed in and hung out with Fran (another Fulbrighter & her boyfriend Burt who is visiting her here in Moze).
Also, Fran and Burt had prepared a wonderful home cooked meal of roasted chicken & potatoes and some greens that were lightly sautéed, and invited Jamy & I to eat with them (No! Jamy didn’t have any chicken). So after the late dinner and a few glasses of South African wine, the “going out option” just kept moving farther and farther away from us. Also it was really nice just to sit and chill in Chris’ place and listen to Fran & Burt give us “the skinny” on the local scene here in Maputo while sipping wine on the terrace overlooking both the ocean and the city. It was real nice. Perhaps not as nice as Bar Africa? But there will be plenty of time for that in the coming months.
