    The Trip

Ok, so the first night (Wednesday the 7th) we did NOT go out and hear any jazz music at “Bar Africa.” We were going to go, but we were afraid that once we traveled there by taxi and got all settled in for a night of fun our jet-lag would kick in and we’d have to go though the trouble of getting ourselves back home (through “the language barrier“). So we stayed in and hung out with Fran (another Fulbrighter & her boyfriend Burt who is visiting her here in Moze).

Also, Fran and Burt had prepared a wonderful home cooked meal of roasted chicken & potatoes and some greens that were lightly sautéed, and invited Jamy & I to eat with them (No! Jamy didn’t have any chicken). So after the late dinner and a few glasses of South African wine, the “going out option” just kept moving farther and farther away from us. Also it was really nice just to sit and chill in Chris’ place and listen to Fran & Burt give us “the skinny” on the local scene here in Maputo while sipping wine on the terrace overlooking both the ocean and the city. It was real nice. Perhaps not as nice as Bar Africa? But there will be plenty of time for that in the coming months.

    Hello!!!
I kept looking over you site for a place to create a new thread or just email you, but I gave up!
I found your site while looking for something on the internet on Mozambique!

So many questions I have! First of all, what are you doing in Mozambique? As I understand you are there for work? I saw all your pictures and enjoyed each of them! I also listened to all the songs you have on the site and love most of them, but especially Na ku Randza. I loved it so much I started to look for info on Gito Baloi and found out he was murdered earlier this year....
I had a boyfriend from Mozambique and he talked to me in this language! Good memories. Can you tell me what language it is (Na ku Randza), or is it a dialect? What I would like is to have the translated version of that song (Na ka randza), to see what it really means I know he wrote that song for 'his firstborn',but that's pretty much it!

I have lived in Angola for 18 years now, so I speak Portuguese, just like you do in Mozambique! I plan to visit that country sometime soon. My cousin went there last year for scuba diving and said the water was just fantastic (he went between Mozambique and Madagascar).

Well, that's it for now, hope you will answer!
Take care and thank you for your site!
    Marlene.
